With the connection of the Keelung River’s two sides, the whole view is yours
By constructing a connecting view bridge for entertainment, Water Resources Department of New Taipei City linked the riverside cycling passageways across the river and integrated the linkage with local public facilities, floodplain landscape, shopping districts and parks to create an exceptional environment for maintaining the nature, and for one to enjoy the view as well as the leisure time, so civilians could have a place for resting and for their leisure time with more diversified functions.
As Taiwan’s economy progressed, and the average per capita GDP almost exceeded USD$20000, citizens became more aware of living standards and activities for leisure time. Nowadays more people liked to do activities along riverside, and people not only hoped to see a bridge which could offer convenience by connecting the two sides of the river, but also hoped to see a bridge which they could use for walking, cycling and viewing. Consequently, the Water Resources Department was actively implementing the project - “Keelung-Xizhi view bridge and riverside landscape improvement construction” to respond to civilians’ invocation.
The view bridge located about 750 meters below to the downstream of the Keelung River’s Chang’an Bridge had its right side next to National Highway No.1 Sijhih Toll Station and had its left side close to TRA Wudu Station, dense residential areas and Sijhih Cathay General Hospital. The place of the bridge was very beautiful and one could see blue sky, clean water and green land simultaneously, which was hard to have in metro Taipei areas. The space around the view bridge could be used for flying a kite, walking dog, sports, children gaming and civilian recycling market; also, the space could have different atmosphere depending on different themes with the bridge’s facility.
The construction project included setting up additional cycling passageways in floodplain regions from the Keelung River’s Chang’an Bridge to the two sides of the River North Second Bridge to link the existing ones. The project was predicted to finish in August of 2014, and the objectives were to complete circular cycling system in Xizhi District, design and build characteristic view bridge and floodplain landscape as well as increase the living standards for civilians’ water activities along the riverside. After the establishment of the construction, it not only could attract local residents and foreign visitors for tourism but also could flourish nearby shopping districts, so in this project civilians actually worked together with the government to create greatest benefit.
