New Taipei City’s Apollo Sheltered Workshop opening brightens disabled people

New Taipei City’s Apollo Sheltered Workshop officially opened on 11/20/2013. Mayor Eric Chu attended the event to encourage disabled people, and he experienced the job duties of the workshop through Cerebral Palsy patient Miss Fang’s careful demonstrations. He also appealed businesses to show their care for disabled people by offering those people more job opportunities.

Eric Chu indicated that there were 22 sheltered workshops in New Taipei City, and each one was full of compassion; most of them were delegated whereas Apollo was subsidiary. Mayor said that subsidiary sheltered workshops were formed by the cooperation between voluntary businesses and the City Government. Those companies transformed parts of their product lines and stores into subsidiary sheltered workshops which not only gave disabled children employment opportunities, but also helped them quickly enter into job market in their future career paths.

Eric Chu said that businesses could foster economic developments, but also show their care for disabled people by offering them job opportunities. One job opportunity offered meant one family helped, and one sheltered workshop represented one hope that disabled people could be able to enter into job market.

Labor Affairs Department indicated that the City Government cooperated with Albert Technical Company to form Apollo Sheltered Workshop which was a subsidiary sheltered workshop formed by splitting the company’s product lines. In contrast to delegated workshops, a subsidiary workshop could help disabled people enter into job market more quickly and efficiently.

Apollo Sheltered Workshop mainly manufactured waste-picked, waste-reduced and fee-reduced products, including office machine maintenance, recycling of supplies, digital output and Taiwan Green Mark office products, etc. Labor Affairs Department further assisted Apollo in completing the registration of the united supply platform. It was hoped that public and private sectors could both purchase more to contribute to the welfare and environmental protection of the society.

Labor Affairs Department pointed out that the City Government had already coached companies to form 22 sheltered workshops, which helped 481 disabled people recruited. Furthermore, the department officially cooperated with private HR banks on 11/1/2013 to offer a variety of channels for employments, so disabled people could directly look up job openings and submit their resumes, which helped disabled people enter into job market more efficiently.
