The construction of the access road in National Taipei University starts

To elevate the transportation function in Sanxia areas, the construction of the access road in National Taipei University’s designated zone started, and Mayor Eric Chu hosted the groundbreaking ceremony. He indicated that after the completion of this road, it could not only improve traffic in Sanxia areas, but also accelerate the construction of the future MRT Sanying route, so the construction was very important to Sanxia areas.

Mayor Chu said that the construction was not merely a ground level road construction because it was also MRT Sanying route’s co-structural construction. During this construction, some space would be saved for MRT’s co-structural interface in the future, so when the future construction launched, the Sanying route could be built faster, and following MRT projects could be also implemented easier.

Public Works Department represented that the external access of the designated zone in National Taipei University mainly relied on Tai No.3 Provincial Highway, No. 110 Provincial Highway and New Taipei No.85 line to travel within Sanxia, Yingge, Banqiao and Tucheng. Due to the lack of quick and direct access road, the traffic flow was very heavy, and the City Government decided to construct a new access road to elevate the transportation function in this region and to foster local economic developments.

Public Works Department said that the total length of the road in this project was 1.457 kilometers, and it had two parts: a ground level section and a bridge section. The construction of the road was estimated to be completed in 2015. The ground level section was co-structural with the MRT Sanying route currently being planned, and the bridge section, a steel arch bridge across Sanxia River, could meet the 200-year flood control frequency. The bridge section also had transportation function as well as aesthetic value. Once it was completed, it would become a characteristic landmark above Sanxia River.
