Multifunctional sports center begins to operate at Banqiao Junior High School

The Banqiao Junior High School Multifunctional Sports Center with the capacity of two volleyball courts started to operate officially on 12/7/2013. New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu hosted the ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening. “With the City Government’s efforts for many years, Banqiao Junior High School finally had a brand new sports center, and he hoped that students could use it more often to take exercise,” Chu said.

He also said that the center could not only be used as the school’s large indoor meeting site, but also be incorporated with local communities to be open for residents in the neighborhoods as their local activity center.

"Dahan River View Bridge’s construction was estimated to be completed by the Chinese New Year in 2014, and it would connect the neighborhoods of Banqiao Junior High School and Xinzhuang old streets to make civilians travel more conveniently. It was hoped to revitalize the local areas, and foster the economy," Chu indicated.

During the initial construction phase of the center, the previous president of Kinik Company, Bai Yongchuan promised to make donations, and his son the current president of the company, Bai Yangliang completed his father’s promise during the second phase of the construction. His generous donation was NT$11,150,000. To thank for their good deeds, Mayor Eric Chu specifically awarded the president a certificate of appreciation to appreciate their strong support for education.

The Education Department indicated that the center was started to be built in May of 2010, and the duration for the construction was about 3 years. The total expenditure was NT$85,000,000, and the area of the building was up to 2,627 meter squares. The building’s indoor height was 15 meters, and it had toilets and player dormitories. It could be set up with two basketball courts or volleyball courts inside, or it could be used as a volleyball competition games site meeting the international standard. Also, it could be used as a Northern training base for R.O.C. Volleyball Association in the future.

The Education Department emphasized that based on the concept of resources sharing, it was planned that starting from the February of 2014, the center would not only be used as basketball courts, badminton courts and table tennis courts for civilians to pay for using them, but also hold various large gathering activities for the local communities, so the center could be used sufficiently to bring the maximum benefits.

Councilors Liu Meifang, Zheng Huanjia, Wang Shuhui, Lin Guochun and Liao Yude all attended today’s ceremony.
