The mayor said that the ceremony honorees are people of different ages and from different backgrounds; they held true to their passions and ideals and dedicated themselves to their inventions, and the city government is specifically honoring these winners of international exhibitions as a token of recognition from the city to these talented inventors.

Economic Development Department reports that the 80 honorees won recognitions at the following events: the 66th International Exhibition of Inventions in Nuremberg, Germany, the 10th Seoul International Invention Exhibition, and the 7th Kuwait and Middle East International Invention Exhibition. The honorees won a combined 8 gold, 8 silver, and 11 bronze medals. These 27 inventions span the fields of home improvement, community and daily-life security, healthcare, and environmental conservation. The youngest of the inventors is a second-year middle school student. The eldest is 77 years old. The department reports that this breadth of inventors is indicative of how creative many of the New Taipeians are regardless of age.

After the awards ceremony, Mayor Chu visited with the winners their inventions one by one. The youngest of the inventors, Mr. Yuan Tengxu, is currently a second-year student at Zhongzheng Middle School in the Tucheng District of New Taipei City. Mr. Yuan’s family loves golf, and he was therefore motivated to improve on the shortcomings of similar past golfing products. He designed an indoor practice machine for golf, dubbed the “3rd Generation Golf Tee-off Practice Machine”. This invention won silver medal at the 2014 Seoul international Invention Exhibition. The most senior of the inventors is the 77-year-old, Mrs. Wu Juanjuan, who developed the "Gauss negative magnetic energy biotech health product.” Her invention won silver medal at the the 2014 Kuwait and Middle East International Invention Exhibition.

Mr. Cheng Guanhao, who is a first-year master’s student at Ming Chi University of Technology, witnessed an incident where his grandmother was injured due to falling asleep while watching television. He was then inspired to collaborate with his teachers and classmates to develop an earwear that warns user against dozing off, call the “Doze-off Prevention Device”. This device detects the change in the tilt degree of the head, and it vibrates and emits a warning sound to wake the user. The device can be worn by drivers to prevent against accidentally falling asleep while driving. It also has lights to notify the passengers that the driver might be falling asleep. The device aims to prevent major traffic accidents caused by over-fatigued drivers. The invention won a gold medal at the 2014 Korea Seoul International invention Exhibition.

Mayor Chu said that from these inventions one can see that many people in Taiwan are very creative and have great ideas; these inventors take note of the small details of life and find improvements thereof. Continuing, the mayor noted that the New Taipei City Government, in order to encourage innovation, has established the "SME Service Corps" to assist patent applications, product commercialization, marketing and provide other consulting services; additionally, "New Taipei Innovation Factory" was built at the Taipei MRT Sanchong Station; in collaboration with private entities, the city government set up "Innovation Dreams Marketplace" at the MRT Xindian Station. The marketplace aims to be a collaboration platform for innovative designs so that people with great ideas are able to link up with enterprises, and inventions can become commercial products and bring practical benefits to people’s lives.

At the end of the ceremony, Mayor Chu also particularly encouraged all inventors to persist in their efforts and attain greater success in future major invention exhibitions.
