On Eve of International Nurses Day, Mayor Chu commends New Taipei nurses
New Taipei City Mayor, Eric Chu, attended the “3rd New Taipei CityOutstanding Nursing Award Ceremony” today. The ceremony saw 44 exceptional nurses receiving recognition for their effort. On behalf of the citizens, Mayor Chu extended gratitude to the nurses for their care and patience, and the mayor wished all of the nursing professionals a happy “5/12 International Nursing Day.”
Mayor Chu said that the infirmed needs care and attention, and medical professionals work to provide that care; among them, nurses play an especially important role. New Taipei City has 15,000 licensed nurses working in hospitals, clinics, long-term care institutions, factories, schools, and public health clinics and others. The mayor said that in caring for the needs of the citizens, these nurses are angels who guard over our health through love and patience.
Public Health Department Commissioner, Dr. Chi-Hung Lin, said as a show of gratitude to nurses who worked humbly and diligently at their posts, starting in 2013, the department began presenting awards to nurses for outstanding “Nursing Contribution,” “Teaching and Research Contribution,” and “Special Contribution.” The nurses who receive these awards have been nominated and then selected. For the award recipients, not only are they at the frontline in the fight for citizen’s health, these nurses has also been separately recognized by their peers and patients.
The Public Health Department reported that 128 professionals were nominated by various institutions for the awards in 3 categories. A committee of 13 community leaders, clinical care experts, and academics was formed for selecting the awardees. 44 nurses were selected through a rigorous selection that consisted of a 12-hour pre-judging process, a review, and a final decision discussion.
