New Taipei City Hosts First Sepak Takraw Game

 “Sepak takraw” is a popular sport in Southeast Asia. New Taipei City government hosted the “Thailand Sepak Takraw Exhibition and Carnivals” today (11/13) in New Taipei City Plaza for Thai labors to remember their homeland.

 

According to Mayor Erik Chu, sepak takraw is the national sport of Thailand and is one of the required courses for men in Thailand. The city hosted the exhibitions and hope for a better understanding of Thai cultures.

 

Thailand Trade and Economic Office deputy commissioner Jin-Min Chung said that New Taipei City cares about the life of Thai workers in Taiwan. Many events were planned for them to ease the homesick. She also expressed her appreciations for donations from Taiwan for the flood.

 

32 teams registered for the competitions and 24 of them were formed by Thai labors in different places. Eight other teams were formed by Taiwanese players.

 

Mayor Chu expressed his concerns regarding the flood in Thiland and performed a traditional Thai lantern hoping that Thailand will recover quickly from the flood.

 

Two time world champion boxers were invited to perform at the carnival. Traditional dances, and various other performances were also scheduled at the venue.
