An Ever Intelligent Community: New Taipei City Hosts E-Services

In order to improve public service efficacy, enhance e-administration for establishing an intelligent community, and ultimately achieve the goal of offering “one-stop-for-all services”, New Taipei City will launch a series of convenient e-counter services on this coming January. One of the new services, called “Medical Wizard”, allows users to use their smart phones or tablet computers to make registrations at municipal hospital websites. Citizens now can also process affairs at the online government service window before picking up physical data at any district offices. In addition, free 1M wireless network service will be provided at all New Taipei City Government’s agencies.

Mayor Chu emphasized that government shall always approach a problem from citizens’ perspective. Because citizens in their cognition tend to not differentiate the City Government from district offices, they want a universal service window where they can process all of their affairs in one stop. He stressed that such a universal service window requires the construction of the “Intelligent New Taipei City” based on the “3O Ideas”: open government, one government, and government on-hand, demanding streamlining effort and resource integrating effort by the Research, Development, and Evaluation Commission and supports from all Ministries and offices.

According to the project report by Chairman of Research, Development, and Evaluation Commission, Jimmy Wu, New Taipei City has planned a total of 675 e-counter services with approximately 300 of them expected to be ready to launch by the end of next year. With new e-counter services coming out every 6 months, the project is scheduled to have all 675 e-counter services launched by 2013. Starting next year, citizens can enjoy quick and convenient e-counter services without the need to go back and forth between government buildings and district offices.

Chairman Wu also said several agencies under New Taipei City Government, libraries, museums, and municipal hospitals will provide free 1M wireless network service starting on this coming January (http://wifi.ntpc.gov.tw), which eclipses the 512 wireless service in Taipei City.

The citizens’ health related “Medical Wizard” will also have its preliminary launch on two municipal hospitals in Sanchung and Banqiao. In addition to online registration and patient calling, the “Medical Wizard” will integrate more functions such as appointment arrangement, schedule reminder in the future to help users effectively manage their times. There is even a game called “Feng Xin Bei (fun at new Taipei City) On-line”, where players can scan QR codes located at various famous scenic sites in New Taipei City to receive special in-game items.
